Chapter 16
Configuring SNMP
Introduction
The SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) agent allows a network man-
agement station using internet protocol to obtain information from FRM. Access to the
agent is through any IP interface, including frame relay or X.25 ports configured for
IP, and LAN interfaces.
The agent handles
get
and (for some fields)
set
commands from the SNMP manager
to provide topology information and node status. This information is retrieved by
calling it from the Management Information Base (MIB).
The FRM supports parts of the Internet-standard MIB II (RFC 1213), as well as the
frame relay MIB (RFC 1315), the SDLC MIB (RFC 1747), the X.25 MIBs (RFC 1381
and 1382), and a Cabletron-proprietary Netlink MIB. The tree structures are shown in
the MIB Reference Guide (part number 09-41-06-149), which is available from
Cabletron Systems.
