Appendix A - Installing System Software 107
q
Configure the Windows NT Workstation
operating system.
Specify information such as your logon username, computer name, and local
language.
q
Configure the AMD Ethernet network adapter.
During initial installation, Setup allows you to complete installation of
networking software on your system. At this time, install and configure the
AMD PCnet Ethernet network adapter driver (located on the Microsoft
Windows NT CD-ROM).
➤
To install and configure the AMD Ethernet driver:
1.
Setup automatically detects the AMD PCNET Ethernet Family driver.
2.
Select OK. The AMD PCNET Ethernet Family driver is now
configured.
Refer the Windows NT Workstation System Guide for more information
about installing and configuring network adapter drivers.
q
Configure the networking protocols.
During initial installation, Setup allows you to select and configure
networking protocols on your system. If your system uses TCP/IP, note the
following when using the Windows NT Workstation Installation Guide to
install and configure TCP/IP software:
♦
Type the Internet Protocol (IP) address, subnet mask, and domain name
for your machine, as specified by your network administrator.
♦
In the TCP/IP Configuration dialog, select DNS to configure Domain
Name System options.
♦
During network configuration, you will see references to the Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and the Windows Internet Name
Service (WINS). Do not select any options that enable or configure
DHCP or WINS unless all of the machines on your network use them.
DHCP and WINS do not function properly in a heterogeneous network.
